A MESSAGE FROM BELL, DAVIS & PITT P.A.

The Crucial Need for a Will at Every Life Stage

Whether you're just starting out or enjoying your golden years, having a will is essential. We spoke with experts Travis and John from Bell, Davis & Pitt P.A. about why a will is crucial no matter your age or life stage. Here’s a quick rundown:

Bell, Davis, and Pitt P.A.

Any Age, Without Kids

  • Asset Access: Who will access your bank accounts, 401k, crypto, and other assets if something happens to you? A will ensures your loved ones can grieve without tracking down your assets.

  • Spousal Rights: Without a will, your assets might not go directly to your spouse; they could be divided between your spouse and parents. A will ensures your wishes are followed.

20s and 30s, With Young Kids

  • Asset Division: Your assets could be split between your spouse and children without a will. Make sure your wishes are followed.

  • Guardianship: Name a guardian for your children to simplify the process of deciding who takes care of them.

40s and 50s

  • Asset Accumulation: You've accumulated more assets; make sure they go to whom you want.

  • Trust Setup: If you have young adult children, you might not want everything going to them immediately. Setting up a trust is a smart move.

60s and Up

  • Retirement Assets: Ensure you've named a beneficiary correctly to minimize tax implications.

  • Power of Attorney: Name a power of attorney and healthcare power of attorney to protect yourself in case you can no longer make decisions for yourself.

Having a will isn't just about distributing assets; it's about ensuring your wishes are followed and easing the burden on your loved ones.

Learn how Bell, Davis & Pitt P.A. can help you!
