Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is tomorrow, November 28. Below are just a few of the many local non-profits that need help achieving their financial goals this Giving Tuesday!

  • WS Rescue Mission

    • Impact: Provides clothing, meal programs, addiction recovery programs, and more to people who are hurting or in need.

    • Goal: Raising $20,000 to reach a matching challenge that doubles donors’ financial gifts.

  • Winston-Salem Urban League

    • Impact: Empowers disenfranchised communities and promotes socioeconomic progress through education, training, and civic engagement.

    • Goal: Raising $7,500 in celebration of its 75 years of serving the community.

  • SECU Family House

    • Impact: Provides affordable lodging and support services for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem for medical treatment.

    • Goal: Raising $25,000; financial gifts will be tripled on Giving Tuesday

  • Riverwood Therapeutic Riding Center

    • Impact: Provides quality, professional equine-assisted activities for both children and adults with disabilities to help with physical abilities and emotional well-being.

    • Goal: Raising $6,000, which is the annual expense associated with feeding the therapy horses.

  • Launch Party - Kick off the WFDD BackPack Campaign at Radar Brewing! Meet the staff of 88.5 WFDD while enjoying games, giveaways, and trivia. 5 PM*

  • Clemmons Tree Lighting - Ring in the season at the Village Hall of Clemmons with a Christmas tree lighting, DJ, train ride, hot chocolate, and more. 5:30 PM

  • Board Game Night - Head to House of Cards for this free weekly event. 6-9 PM

  • Dreamcatchers Workshop - Celebrate Native American Heritage Month by creating dreamcatchers and learning about the Ojibwe tribe at Forsyth County Central Library. 5:30 PM

  • Garden Year in Review - Join the director of Reynolda Gardens to reflect on 2023 and get a glimpse of what’s coming to the Gardens in 2024. 12:30 PM

Wednesday, November 29

  • Wreath Workshop - Create a holiday wreath using fresh greens and other additions at Fiddle & Fig. 6 PM

  • Stocking DIY - Learn the basics of sewing while making your own holiday stocking at MIXXER. 5 PM

  • Cooking Class - Use a cast iron skillet to cook the perfect seared steak at Southern Home & Kitchen. 6 PM

Thursday, November 30

  • Watercolor Class - Learn watercolor techniques as you create your own holiday wreath watercolor painting at Fiddle & Fig. 6 PM

  • Christmas Candlelight - Salem Academy and College hosts a free service on its campus featuring inspiring words, singing, and candle lighting. 4:15 PM

  • Net Night - Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages while networking with other professionals at Legacy Stables and Events. 5 PM*

  • Concert: Music artist Anjimile headlines Crossroads @ SECCA #027. The special performance will take place on Friday, December 1, with a dinner menu available from Native Root.*

  • Ranking: Winston-Salem State University was recently ranked No. 1 in the ESPN Band of The Year HBCU band championship. The band - known as the “Red Sea of Sound” - was previously ranked as No. 10 in the nation.

  • New Restaurant: Basil Habachi recently opened at 3800 Reynolda Road. The Japanese restaurant’s menu includes gyoza, fried rice, and seven different protein options (along with a vegetarian option) for the entrees.

  • Award Nomination: The Human Relations Commission and Department is seeking nominations for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Young Dreamer Award. Recipients will have made a “tangible difference in the lives of others who may have otherwise been overlooked, ignored, or disadvantaged,” according to the City of Winston-Salem’s website. Submit your nomination by December 14.

Support both 88.5 WFDD and Second Harvest Food Bank on November 28 at Radar Brewing! Attendees will enjoy giveaways, games, and trivia with a special public radio twist.   • Background: Starting with Dewey Guy Wilkerson in 1925, the Wilkerson family has been baking for five generations! The family is the oldest name in Moravian baking.

  • Treats: Customers can expect the same Moravian cookies, sugar cakes, and Carolina cheese straws they’ve come to know and love.

  • Grand Opening: Visit the bakery on December 2nd for free samples and a visit from Santa. Team member Jacob will be stopping by to try his first-ever Moravian cookie!
