Winston-Salem approved a new transit service provider to improve its bus system!
What: In Monday’s City Council meeting, the council approved a 5-year, $150 million contract for RATP Dev USA. The company will take over operations on August 1.
Why: Last year, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) told the Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) it needed to look for a new transit service provider; WSTA has been working with TransDev since 2010.
Changes: The new contract is an operations-style contract, meaning that RATP Dev USA will have more responsibility than TransDev did. This change will allow WSTA to focus on transit planning, FTA compliance, and ridership growth.
Improvements: The city expects to improve the safety and efficiency of its transportation network + rider experience and bring back full night service.
