School lets out for the summer next week! Keep your kids’ minds and bodies active over the break with these activities in Winston-Salem.

Mornings at Reynolda | Reynolda House Museum | Next date is Friday, May 31

• Kids explore Reynolda through activities that encourage art-making, music, nature exploration, and more. Intended for preschoolers.

Family First Workshop | Reynolda House Museum | Next date is Sunday, June 2

• Kids spend time in the museum looking at artwork and then go to Reynolda’s studio classroom to create their own! Appropriate for grades 1-6.

Kids’ Night Out | Kaleideum | Next date is Friday, June 7

• Drop off the kids at Kaleideum for a night of museum exploration, crafts, activities, and pizza + snacks. Appropriate for grades K-6.

2nd Saturdays | SECCA | Next date is Saturday, June 8

• Let the kids unleash their creativity at this free, family-oriented art event. This event takes place every 2nd Saturday of the month, and all ages are welcome.

Storytime | Various locations | Next event is Tuesday, June 11 at Ciener Botanical Garden

• Engage your child’s love of reading with storytime at various locations, such as Ciener Botanical Garden, Bookmarks Bookstore, and the Reynolda House Museum.

Softgolf | Tanglewood Park | Ongoing

• This version of golf is played with oversized equipment, making it easily accessible to all ages!

Sawtooth Classes | Sawtooth School for Visual Art | Multiple dates

• Sawtooth offers so many different art classes! Your kids can learn to bind books, sculpt a masterpiece, illustrate creatures from Harry Potter, embroider, and more.

Outdoor Movies | Various locations | Movies start at dark

• Watch a movie under the stars! Upcoming screenings kids will enjoy are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem at Crossnore on June 7 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie at Bailey Park on June 21.

Baseball Game | Truist Stadium | Multiple dates

• Take them out to the ball game! Check the Winston-Salem Dash’s schedule to see all available dates. Home games feature special promos and theme nights, making each visit to Truist Stadium a unique experience.

Camp | Various locations | Multiple dates and sessions

• Send your kids to a local camp! Mixxer offers multiple STEAM camps like music production, coding, and more. YMCA has day camps and overnight camps for all ages.

• Taco Festival - Head to the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds for tacos, live DJs, local shopping, and a fun zone with axe throwing + corn hole! 12-5 PM

• Pride Cookout - Enjoy grilled food and a live DJ at South Fork Park for the first day of Pride Month. 4-8 PM

• Supper Club - Unwind at Simply Sonya’s with great food, Southern soul music, and a performance by comedian Burpie! 8:30 PM

• Summer Shindig - Welcome in summer at the Jerry Long Family YMCA with a live concert featuring UNKNOWN ARTIST, a kids zone, and food trucks. 5-8 PM

• Chase the Dream 5K - Get ready for this glow-in-the-dark 5K at Bailey Park, supporting the Dream Center. 8 PM

• Hard Hat Tour - Take a tour of the former Coca-Cola Bottling Plant! The building’s owner will share its history and the plans to transform the plant into a restaurant and event space. 9-11 AM

• Winston Vintage Market - Find clothing from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 00s from 20+ vendors at ALV Nightclub. Most vendors’ price points start at just five dollars! 11 AM - 5 PM

• Mario Kart Tournament - Start your engines! ROAR hosts a Mario Kart 8 Tournament in its gaming space, The BUNKR, complete with a UNSCA 4-piece band performing music from the iconic soundtrack. 5-11:30 PM

Sunday, June 2

• Farmers Market - Find fresh produce, fruit, beer, and even knife sharpening at Foothills Tasting Room. 12 PM

• Funky Llama Market - Divine Llama Vineyards hosts an art, craft, and vintage market. Shop for unique items and don’t forget to say hi to the llamas! 1-5 PM

• Wine For Woofs - Taste 10 wines, enjoy a slice from Uptown Pizza, and meet foster pups at Meladoni Cellars. A percentage of proceeds from the event benefit the Animal Adoption and Rescue Foundation (AARF). 1-3 PM

Monday, June 3

• Golf Tournament - Compete in Moji Coffee and More’s 5th annual fundraiser tournament at Salem Glen Country Club. 12 PM

• The Lab - Discover emerging artists at The DOSE Collective’s monthly showcase at the Milton Rhodes Center! 7:30-10:30 PM

Other News

• Government: A $658.9 million budget for 2024-25 was proposed to Mayor Joines and the City Council on May 28. You can read the proposal online and attend a public hearing on May 30 or June 17. The City Council will vote on the budget at the June 17 meeting.
  
  

• Art: Artfolios will host its first annual Art Extravaganza on June 9 at The Millenium Center. The free event will feature the artwork of over 20 artists, a boutique market, and live musical performances.
  
  

• Academics: Winston-Salem State University named its 14th chancellor today! Bonita J. Brown will take up her position on July 1, 2024. She is WSSU's first permanent female chancellor.
  
  

• Opening: Jade Express, a new restaurant featuring Chinese and hibachi food, celebrates its grand opening on June 1 at 1103 Salis Creek Pkwy! If you need a recommendation of what to try, Jade Express is known for its bourbon chicken, a perfect blend of Chinese and Southern flavors.
