  • Book Discussion - SECCA hosts “The Book Was Better,” a series exploring books that were adapted to the screen. This month’s book is Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro. 6 PM

  • Starlight Movie - Watch Jurassic Park at Shallowford Square, the first installment of Lewisville’s summer movie series. Movie starts at dusk.

  • Greek Festival - Celebrate Greek culture at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church with folk dancing, live music, a Greek market, children’s activities, and incredible food. Runs through Sunday.

  • Art Crush - Head to the Arts District for live performances, food, art galleries, and shopping from local vendors and artists. 7-10 PM

  • Comedy Show - Laugh the night away as Next Stop Comedy brings top stand-up comedians to Foothills Tasting Room. 7:30 PM

  • Mornings at Reynolda - Take your preschooler to Reynolda to explore the property through activities that encourage dramatic play, music, movement, nature exploration, and art-making. 10 AM

  • Stage Show - 40+ Stage Company presents The Old Settler, a story set in 1940s Harlem. Show runs through Sunday at the Intergenerational Center for Arts and Wellness.

  • Outdoor Movie - Spread out a blanket in Bailey Park and enjoy watching Everything Everywhere All at Once (rated R). Movie starts at dusk.

  • Opening: Are you ready for Japanese-Peruvian cuisine? Sushi Rose begins its soft opening phase on Saturday, May 18, at 247 E Fifth St. The restaurant will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday, May 25!

  • Recreation: Serve First Racquetball Sports kicks off Tennis on Tap on Monday, May 20, at Incendiary Brewing. This event is perfect for people wanting to casually play tennis, featuring shorter courts and foam balls.

  • Homes: The city will accept applications for its Transforming Urban Residential Neighborhoods (TURN) initiative from June 1 to June 30. Low to moderate-income homeowners can receive up to $65,000 in forgivable loans to fix up their property.


  • Culture: We Are, Because We Were, a new documentary, was screened in the Center for Design Innovation this past weekend. The documentary showcased and celebrated the contributions of African Americans to Winston-Salem.

  • Now Open: Miller’s on Trade, a new sports bar, recently opened! The space has 24 TVs, pool tables, darts, and arcade games. The walls are covered with sports memorabilia - check it out for yourself on 622 Trade St NW.

  • Donation: An anonymous donor gifted Crossnore Communities for Children with $5 million - the largest donation in Crossnore’s history. The gift will be used to help build a charter school on Crossnore’s Winston-Salem campus and will require $3 million in matching gifts for the charter school project.

Gears and Guitars is back early this year on May 24-25! This two-day event combines one of the country’s most prestigious cycling events with free live music from big-name bands like The Fray (we’ve been humming “How to Save a Life” all day).

Friday, May 24: The evening kicks off with drag race-style street sprints down 4th Street from 7-9 PM. Pro-tip: Grab food from one of the great restaurants on 4th Street while watching the races!

Free concerts take place in Merschel Plaza and on Marshall Street starting at 5:30 PM.

Saturday, May 25: Fondo rides start on Saturday morning at Bailey Park. There are two road distances and two greenway/gravel distances.

Criterium racing takes place at Bailey Park all day, along with performances from five different bands (including The Fray)!*
