🧘♀️ Innovation Quarter's Event Series
A MESSAGE FROM BELL, DAVIS & PITT P.A.
How to Appeal Your Property Tax Revaluation
Did you receive your NC Property Tax Revaluation? Many people are venting their frustration (we see you Winston-Salem Facebook groups), asking what they can do if they disagree with their assessment. The good news is you can appeal it. Here’s how:
Appeals Process:
Informal Appeal: Fill out the informal appeal form that comes with your reappraisal notice. The informal appeal deadline is 30 days from the date of the notice.
Formal Appeal: If the informal appeal doesn’t resolve the issue, you can appeal to the Forsyth County Board of Equalization and Review. You must file by June 30th, 2025, or within 15 days of your last value notice, whichever is later.
Appeal to NC Property Tax Commission: If the formal appeal is not successful, you can appeal to the North Carolina Property Tax Commission. The Commission will review the evidence from your informal appeal. Further appeals can go to the NC Court of Appeals or the NC Supreme Court.
Why Call an Attorney?
While legal representation isn't always necessary, consulting an attorney can help avoid mistakes like:
Missing deadlines
Using the wrong valuation date
Misunderstanding the burden of proof
Submitting irrelevant evidence
