Chopping It Up
Justin Webster, owner and executive chef of Heff’s Burger Club, will be on Food Network’s “Chopped”!
Who: Chef Justin is no stranger to Winston-Salem’s food scene. He’s worked at Jeffrey Adams, Hakka Chow, Krankies, and other restaurants in the area. He opened Heff’s Burger Club in 2022.
The Call: Casting agents approached Chef Justin a year and a half ago. After a multi-part interview process, he was selected in September 2023 and competed in January of this year!

Save the Date: Elevated Supper Club presents a craft beer dinner on June 23 at Stem Beverage & Supply. The evening will feature locally produced beer from Incendiary Brewing. Tickets go on sale June 4.
Volunteer: Work with experienced gardeners at the Arboretum at Tanglewood Park on June 13. Tasks include weeding, planting, mulching, and more. If you enjoy this type of work, there are volunteer opportunities on July 11 and August 15!
Recognition: The Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) named Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. a 2024 Chamber of the Year Award finalist. The other finalists in the category are the Chambers of Commerce in Phoenix, AZ, and Oklahoma City, OK. The award winners will be announced on July 17.
Sports: Did you know there’s a disc golf course on Crossnore’s campus? This past fall, Essent Guaranty donated $3,900 to support the revitalization effort and make the course playable again!
Ranking: Historic Hotels of America® listed The Graylyn Estate on its Top 25 Best of Adaptive Reuse List. The estate was built in 1932 as a home for Bowman and Nathalie Gray. The family gifted the estate to Wake Forest University in 1946, and the University transformed the estate into a Boutique Hotel and Conference Center in 1984.
Education: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a grant to The Arts Based School in Winston-Salem to purchase an all-electric school bus. The school’s director hopes to have the new bus in operation by December of this year.
Fresh Bites, Bakery Buzz, and More
There’s more to explore in Winston-Salem! Just this past week, two new restaurants opened, a bakery announced its plans to expand, and Kaleideum’s rooftop playground prepares to welcome its first guests.
Kaleideum: The rooftop playground opens this Saturday, June 8, at 10 AM! For those 21+, you can explore the new space in a kid-free environment at Kaleideum After Dark at 6:30 PM.
Jade Express: The family-owned restaurant serves Chinese and hibachi dishes. Make sure you try the signature dish: bourbon chicken, a delectable blend of Chinese and Southern flavors.
Expansion: Louie & Honey, the popular West End bakery and coffee shop, will expand its kitchen this summer! It will also take over the space currently occupied by The Mulberry Table in January 2025, transforming it into a dining and market area.
Kalamaki: This fast-casual restaurant from the people behind The Sherwood and TJ’s Deli serves authentic Greek street food. Expect slow-cooked gyros, skewers, and Greek donuts.
