Stage Play - Watch Spirit Gum Theatre’s performance of “The Unfortunates,” a ghost story set in 19th-century London. Show runs through February 9.

🐶 Save the Date: The Annual Woofston-Salem Fashion Show is Saturday, February 8, at the Winston Junction Market. The event will feature a dog fashion show, a virtual silent auction, and a vendor market. Proceeds from the event will benefit shelter pets and spay/neuter initiatives.
🍲 Non-Profit: It’s time for the Samaritan Ministries Souper Bowl! You can provide “soup for souls” by donating, volunteering, hosting a food drive, and/or spreading awareness. Let’s tackle hunger in our community!
✏️ Education: Anderson Academy, Crossnore’s Community Charter School, will open this August for students grades K-4. Enrollment will be based on a lottery system. Crossnore began renovations to convert the Edwards Building in February 2024.
🍠 Closing: The award-winning restaurant Sweet Potatoes will close on Saturday, February 1, after 22 years of serving up Southern food in the Arts District. Co-owners Stephanie and Vivián said the lingering effects of the pandemic led to the decision.
🌳 Recreation: Forsyth County announced the grand opening of J. Dudley Watts Jr. Belews Lake Park, a 216-acre park with nearly 2 miles of lake frontage. Phase 1 highlights include over 1.5 miles of trails and a fishing dock. Construction on the park began in March 2023—you can see the full project timeline here.
🎨 Arts: The Academy Awards nominations included two UNCSA alumni! Paul Tazewell was nominated for Best Costume Design for his work as the costume designer of “Wicked.” Richard Redlefsen was a prosthetic makeup artist for “A Different Man,” which was nominated for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. The Academy Awards will air on Sunday, March 2.
🏆 Ranking: Winston-Salem ranked No. 17 on Rent Cafe’s list of cities for renters to watch in 2025. Our city jumped up 52 spots from last year due to a 30% drop in available listings. This statistic is reflected in Forbes’ ranking of Winston-Salem as No. 10 on its list of best cities for renters.
