Have you ever read the historical markers around town? Check out these markers that highlight Winston-Salem and Forsyth Countyās Black history!
Location: 1215 N Cameron Avenue
History: The first school in Winston-Salem built to be a high school for Black students.
Location: West 4th Street
History: Carl Wesley Matthews began a sit-in demonstration by himself at lunch counters near this site.
Location: Silas Creek Parkway
History: A community for Black farmhands and their families who worked in the Reynolda House and Reynolda Village.
Location: 100 W Fifth Street
History: Established in 1926āonce the largest African-American public transportation system in the world.

š³ Volunteer: Piedmont Land Conservancy needs your help! Head to the Stuart & Emma Thomas Memorial Trail at Crossnore on Saturday, February 8, to improve the trail by planting trees, moving rocks, and smoothing eroded parts of the trail. The Thomas Memorial Trail first opened on Earth Day 2023.
