What: The African American Heritage Tour highlights the culture, art, and history that defines the Black narrative in Winston-Salem. On the tour, you can expect to see and experience:

  • Historic homes and neighborhoods like Boston Community

  • Educational institutions like Winston-Salem State University

  • An artistic scavenger hunt

  • Freedman’s Graveyard

  • Plus more!

Fun Fact: The African American Heritage Tour is featured in Tina Firesheets’ book, 100 Things to Do in Winston-Salem Before You Die!

Details: The tour is available in a variety of formats, including trolley + bus tours, walking tours, and virtual tours. There is no set time for when tours take place, and the price is calculated based on group size.

  • Film Series - Old Town Neighborhood Center presents a screening of The Great Debaters as part of an ongoing film series featuring prominent Black directors. 7 PM

  • Valentine’s Bar Bazaar - Find a unique item for your significant other at The Playground Golf and Sports Bar’s pop-up market, featuring over 15 vendors. 5-9 PM

  • Primm’s Party - Grab your girlfriends and join Primm’s for champagne, sweet treats, and giveaways from Beauty Road, Delta Glow, and more! 5:30 PM

  • Floral DIY - Create your own pressed floral frame with instruction from a Resin Flow Art instructor at Radar Brewing Company. 6 PM

  • Mixed Doubles - Grab a seat at Forsyth County Central Library for the third installment in a series of tandem lectures on unrelated topics. This week’s topics: Hot Sauce and Contemporary Dance! 6 PM

  • Film Academy - Mixxer is hosting an open house for its newest program, which will teach high school students how to produce films and videos. 7 PM

Other News

  • Education: Salem College received a record-breaking 1,900 applications for Fall 2024, which is more than double the amount of applications it received last year. The women’s college traditionally admits under 200 students each year.

  • New Bar: In addition to a drink and food menu, Dive Bar will have arcade games, billiards, darts, skee-ball, and more. The space is currently occupied by Eastern Standard, which will stop booking private events on February 15.

  • Closing: Harvest Market, a co-op grocery store south of downtown, has closed due to low sales. The grocery store opened in October 2022 to address food insecurity and provide healthier food alternatives to residents living in the area.

  • Contest: The Forsyth Humane Society’s pet calendar contest for 2025 is officially open. You can enter your pet and begin voting for which photos should be featured in next year’s calendar.

  • New Owners: Now under new management and ownership, Cowboy Brazilian Steakhouse has changed its name to Lasso Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse. Chef Freddy Lee of Bernardin's and Cibo Trattoria is the new co-owner alongside Antonio Jochem.

  • Athletics: The Piedmont Plus Senior Games and Silver Arts are year-round wellness and educational programs for adults 50+. The programs conclude with competitions held on April 5; early bird registration for the competitions ends on February 29.

  • Funding: Greater Winston-Salem, Inc. will receive a grant from the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives. The money will be used to increase the number of learners from traditionally marginalized populations who earn nursing or medical assistant credentials.
