New Walking Path Coming Soon

Earlier this week, we asked our Instagram followers what outdoor amenities they wished Winston-Salem had more of. The results are in - 63% of respondents wish the city had more greenways/trails.

We’ve got good news for you! The Winston-Salem City Council approved a construction contract that will “pave the way” for phase 1 of the Salem Parkway Multi-Use Path (MUP).

  • Why It Matters: Phase 1 of the MUP will connect the Winston-Salem Strollway to W Fourth Street, which will increase the city’s connectivity and walkability.

  • What To Expect: Construction is set to begin in May 2024 and is projected to take 12 months to complete. The Cherry Street ramp will be blocked off at certain times of the day for 6 months, starting at an undetermined date.

  • Background: Originally, the MUP was part of the Business 40 reconstruction project that was constructed between 2018-2020. However, financial issues prevented the NC Department of Transportation from being able to construct the MUP, and the project was handed over to the city.

  • Looking Ahead: Phase 2 of the project is under design and will extend the MUP from W Fourth Street to Lockland Avenue.

What Are Primary Elections?

Primary elections are used by political parties to select candidates for an upcoming general election. In this case, the primary elections determine who is on the ballot for the November elections.

Who Can Participate?
