👷‍♂️ Making Room For More

The Robinhood Road Family YMCA is expanding! The expansion includes facade renovations, a new Airnasium, and additional parking. Keep reading to learn details about the project.

Robinhood Road Family YMCA

  • Facade: The updated facade will improve the building’s appearance and enhance functionality, safety, and energy efficiency.

  • Airnasium: This new, versatile environment will host programs such as pickleball, group exercise classes, and youth & teen after-school activities.

  • Parking: The YMCA bought land adjacent to its location, which will allow it to add 140+ parking spaces.

  • Why It Matters: The Robinhood Road Family YMCA was first renovated in 2010 and is now in need of updates. The planned expansion will allow this branch to better meet the needs of its guests.

Saturday, February 22

  • Murder Mystery - Gather clues and mingle with fellow players at Radar Brewing as you solve the “Murder at the Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball.” 7:30 PM

  • Silent Disco - Dreaming of warmer days? Join The Ramkat for its Summer Dreams-themed silent disco! 8 PM

  • Artisan Market - Find unique, handmade gifts at Wise Man Brewing. 12-5 PM

  • Comedy Night - Comedians Tyrone Burston and Dusty Cagle perform at Old Homeplace Vineyards! 7:30 PM

  • Pop-Up Sale - Shop clothes, shoes, books, housewares, and more from Green and West at 7 Brookstown Avenue. Runs through Sunday. 9 AM - 4 PM

  • Community Roots Day - Join fellow locals to plant trees in various locations around Winston-Salem. 9 AM

  • National Margarita Day - Celebrate at East of Texas with margarita flight and carafe specials all day!

  • Bright Futures Festival - Learn about engineering and literacy opportunities in our community at Kaleideum. 11 AM - 3 PM

  • Chili Cook-Off - Do you have an incredible chili recipe? Enter it into Dive Bar’s inaugural Burke Street Chili Cook-Off. Non-contestants are also welcome to come enjoy the food! 4-6:30 PM

Sunday, February 23

  • Cocktail Class - Join easytalk at the bar to learn about the science of making tasty cocktails and how different flavors/tastes interact. 4 PM

  • Painting Pop-Up - Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early and paint a leprechaun gnome at Brouwerij DuBois! 1 PM

  • Community Market - Find handmade items, grab a bite at JJ’s Cuban Kitchen food truck, and listen to live music at Robinhood Plaza. 12-5 PM

  • Winter Concert - The Salem Band performs music like “El Camino Real” and Ticheli's “Vesuvius” at Salem Academy & College. 3 PM

  • Tour Pour Du Jour - Tour Graylyn Estate, learn about its fascinating history, and enjoy appetizers and wine in the library. 4 PM

Monday, February 24

  • Cooking Class - Learn how to make sheet pan suppers at Southern Home & Kitchen. 6 PM

  • 🎨 Arts: UNCSA has launched a new podcast called “The Arts & Everything.” Hosted by Chancellor Brian Cole, the podcast explores the intersection of society and the arts.

  • 🍲 Coming Soon: KPOT Korean BBQ & Hot Pot will open its sixth NC location in Winston-Salem at 1615 Fox Trot Court!   • ⚾ Baseball: The Winston-Salem Dash announced its one-day rebrand for June 20: the Hooch Pooches! The theme honors the city's stock car racing roots and Prohibition-era bootlegging. Returning rebrands for 2025 include the Hype Hens, Italian Beefs, and Tobacco Beetles.

  • 🐶 Memorials: Local artist and author Lynn Byrd created “Little Pet Chapels” to help people honor their departed pets. You can find these chapels—which look similar to Little Free Libraries—at Long Creek Park, Miller Park, Hathaway Park, and the Muddy Creek Trailhead. (WFDD)

  • 🏐 Athletics: Salem College unveiled its new beach volleyball court over the weekend, marking the start of the team's inaugural season with matches at St. Andrews University. Their first home game is Thursday, March 6, against Wake Tech CC. 

  • 🍪 In the News: The Moravian cookie could soon become North Carolina’s official state cookie! A bill proposing this designation passed its first reading earlier today, highlighting the cookie's historical significance. The first reading is a formal procedure that introduces a bill to the legislature, marking the start of the process to make it law. (WXII)
