🧖♀️ Coming Soon: Pure Sweat Sauna Studio is opening at 901 Trade Street NW in March! This first Pure Sweat in North Carolina will specialize in infrared sauna and cold plunging services.
✏️ Education: The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Brunson Elementary School was held this morning, February 17, at 1201 N Patterson Avenue. The new school is expected to be completed in 2026, replacing the current 63-year-old campus.
🎨 Art: Take a walk along the Salem Strollway to read a poem! Local poet Tamika Wells painted the words to her poem—“What If I Write?”—along the path between 1st Street and Salem Parkway.
🏆 Ranking: U.S. News & World Report included two local hotels on its list of best hotels in North Carolina. The Kimpton Cardinal Hotel ranked No. 29 and Graylyn Estate ranked No. 39. Graylyn Estate also recently appeared on Historic Hotels of America’s list of Top 25 Most Romantic Hotels.
🎵 Closing: Underdog Records will close its physical store on Burke Street on Saturday, March 1. The record store will transition to online only, selling 95% used vinyl; its LP inventory, $1 albums, and accessories will go on sale beginning Wednesday, February 19. Underdog Records first opened on November 1, 2013.
💼 Business: HanesBrands announced that Steve Bratspies will step down from his position as CEO. Bratspies will continue in his position through the end of 2025 or until HanesBrands appoints a new CEO. During his tenure at HanesBrands, Bratspies overhauled the company’s operating model and completed its sale of the Champion business.
👦 Childcare: Brookridge and Imprints Cares will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Center for Thriving Children on Tuesday, March 4. The Center for Thriving Children will be a childcare center located on Brookridge’s campus and operated by Imprints Cares. The Center is projected to open in early 2026 and will serve children ages 0-5.
