Celebrate not one, but two grand openings in Winston-Salem this weekend!

Kaleideum:

After two years of construction, Kaleideum will open this weekend (120 West 3rd Street). The children’s museum in downtown Winston-Salem features hands-on exhibits, interactive displays, and educational programs.

The Details:
~ Ribbon Cutting | Thursday at 11 AM with Forsyth County Commissioners and other community leaders. Open to the public.
~ Members-Only Days | Thursday 12 PM - 5 PM and Friday 9 AM - 5 PM
~ Grand Opening | Saturday 10 AM - 5 PM | Tickets must be reserved/purchased for entry.

Spotted Cow:

The old location of Cibo Trattoria has been transformed by its owners into a new steakhouse, Spotted Cow. The menu includes a variety of cuts - filet, ribeye, porterhouse, and strip as well as seafood, pork ribs, and burgers.

Friday, February 16

  • Stage Play - The Little Theatre of Winston-Salem presents Trouble in Mind at Hanesbrands Theatre. Available through February 25.

  • Winter Circus - Bring the whole family to Reynolds Place Theatre to see “Solstice: A Winter Circus Experience,” featuring eight acrobatic acts and snowfall! Available through Sunday.

  • Free Screening - Watch the romantic drama, Chocolat, at Camel City Playhouse. There will be a paid wine and chocolate tasting before the screening. Doors open at 6:30 PM, screening starts at 8 PM.

  • Hearth Cooking Workshop - Taste the contributions of African Americans to Southern hearth cooking at Old Salem Museum & Gardens with cooking demonstrations and workshops. 6 PM

Saturday, February 17

  • Pop-up Exhibit - Tour the “We Built This: Profiles of Black Architects and Builders” exhibit at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Farmers Market. 6 AM - 12 PM

  • Cookie Clash - Decorate cookies and take on the competition at The Canvas Cake Studio. All skill levels welcome! 3 PM

  • Chinese Tea - Taste different varieties of Chinese tea and watch Gongfu tea ceremony demonstrations at the Lam Museum of Anthropology. 1-3 PM

  • Murder Mystery Dinner - Join Old Homeplace Vineyard for a catered meal and wedding-themed murder mystery. 5:30 PM

  • Seed & Plant Swap - Spring is coming! Swap seeds and plants with fellow gardening enthusiasts at Second Harvest Food Bank. All plants and seeds are welcome. 10 AM - 12 PM

  • Dinner & Show - Enjoy a three-course dinner and a live musical show provided by Blazin’ Keys Dueling Pianos at Childress Vineyards.

Sunday, February 18

  • Galentine’s Tea Party - Great friends, delicious treats, and exquisite tea - all at Pink Moon Cafe. 2 PM

  • Music Symposium - The Black Sacred Music Symposium concludes with a free, large-scale community choral performance at the Gerald Freedman Theatre. 4 PM

Monday, February 19

  • Cocktail Dinner - Enjoy a four-course dinner at Earl’s with paired cocktails from Joyner’s Bar. 7 PM

  • Book Launch - Bookmarks hosts New York Times bestselling author Hafsah Faizel for the launch of her new book, A Tempest of Tea. 6:30 PM

  • Black Wall Street - Come to the “Black Wall Street Experience” at Sparq for an empowering event that presents a strategic vision to uplift Black businesses and the Winston-Salem community. 12 PM

  • Save the Date: City Lights Ministries’ annual Easter egg hunt is March 27. To put on this large-scale event, your help is needed! Sign up to assist with prep work or to volunteer at the event.

  • Vendor Call: The Playground Golf and Sports Bar is looking for vendors for its Mother’s Day Bar Bazaar on May 2.

  • Training: Crisis Control Ministries offers “Bridges Out of Poverty Training” at Trinity Presbyterian Church on February 23. Participants will learn about the impact of poverty so that they can take part in providing avenues of success for all.

  • Education: According to research conducted by Harvard and Stanford, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School District is among the fastest-recovering school districts in the nation post-pandemic. The district has seen significant improvement in math and reading scores.

  • Discussion: Centenary United Methodist Church hosts “How Can We Change the Story?” on February 25. This monthly series features panel discussions about critical social issues facing Winston-Salem and how you can help make a difference.
